The idea for Love Armor began with a contradiction.

I read an article about Asian armor made from paper. I was fascinated by the idea that something so delicate could be transformed into something capable of protection. I began researching the subject and later watched MythBusters explore the strength of paper armor compared with metal.

The results stayed with me.

Paper was remarkably light, yet under the right conditions, it could be extraordinarily strong.

I knew I had to create something with paper.

At the time, LOVE was already a recurring theme in my work. Love is difficult to understand. It can protect us, expose us, strengthen us, and sometimes hurt us.

Then the connection appeared:

Armor and Love.

Perfect.

If paper could become armor, perhaps love could become armor too.

I began asking myself another question: Why make a heart in two dimensions when I could make one that existed in space?

That question became the beginning of my three-dimensional Love Armor sculptures.

Through extensive experimentation, trial and error, and many failures, I developed a proprietary process for forming the hearts from paper. The first five were created 100% from organic materials, making them a personal gesture toward the earth and the beginning of a sculptural language I would continue to explore.

This small heart is one of those original five.

It is 100% organic and finished with real silver dating from 1970. Today, it resides in a private collection.

The first five Love Armor hearts are now SOLD.

But the idea continues.

Something as delicate as paper can become strong.

Something as vulnerable as love can become armor.
