I once read an article about Asian armor made from paper. The idea stopped me.

Paper? Armor?

I began researching the history and strength of paper armor and eventually watched an episode of MythBusters exploring the concept. The results fascinated me. Paper armor was remarkably light, yet capable of surprising strength.

I knew I had to create something with paper.

At the time, LOVE was already a recurring theme in my work. Love is powerful, complicated, beautiful, and sometimes dangerous.

Then the connection appeared:

Armor and Love.

Perfect.

If paper could become armor, could love become armor too?

And why make a heart in two dimensions when I could make one that existed in space?

That question began the process.

Through countless experiments, failures, revisions, and discoveries, I developed my own proprietary process for constructing three-dimensional hearts from paper. The first five were created entirely from organic materials, a personal gesture toward the earth. All five of those original works have been sold.

This sculpture continues that evolution.

Its form is built around the paradox that first inspired the series:

Something as delicate as paper can become extraordinarily strong.

Something as vulnerable as love can become armor.
